Scene of a convict rebellion in 1804, Castle Hill – 31 km north west of Sydney’s CBD – got its name from a grand residence of a French Baron that was known as The Castle in the 1800s.

The area’s farms fed the colony in the early days with its many market gardens and orchards.

Located some 34 west of the Sydney CBD Blacktown is one of the most multicultural suburbs in the city with people hailing from many countries including the Philippines, India, Sudan and New Zealand. The name stems from ‘Black Town’ a term used in the early days of the settlement referring to a school for Aboriginal children located there in the 1800s.
