Ryde

Located 13 km north west of Sydney’s CBD Ryde lies on the north side of the Parramatta River. Named after the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight it’s the third oldest settlement in Australia. Ryde also has the oldest settler’s cottage in the country built in 1800.

Today Ryde has large shopping centre and aquatic centre that was used in the 2000 Olympics.

A notable resident was Bennelong who was buried in nearby Putney.
